Dalai Lama answers 10 questions from ordinary people throughout the world

It's on a facebook page, but you don't have to have a facebook account to read this

Dalai Lama on "What is Nonviolence?"

To restrain from hurting another out of fear is not nonviolence.
Nor is remaining indifferent to what is happening.
Nonviolence means you have the ability to harm another, but with love and respect, you restrain from harming others.
So nonviolence is a sign of strength, self-confidence. The motivation for not harming others is loving others, respecting others' well being, others' rights.
Nonviolence is action, action must be based on motivation; here the motivation is compassion. Nonviolence, or Ahimsa, and compassion are two faces of the same coin.

Dalai Lama on kindness

Right from the moment of our birth, we are under the care and kindness of our parents, and then later on in our life when we are oppressed by sickness and become old, we are again dependent on the kindness of others. Since at the beginning and end of our lives we are so dependent on other's kindness, how can it be in the middle that we would neglect kindness towards others?

Elizabeth Gilbert gives her view of what "Genius" is: a the divine muse who visits and inspires; genius is not the person him/herself. (20 min.)

I am really appreciating how she brings the sacred/divine space in each of us into her exposition. This is a part which seems to me to be so forgotten and neglected in so many aspects of modern life.
